Star of the DecadeAnnouncement Date : Jan 1 , 1950
Beginning in the 1950’s, Wayne firmly held a position in the top ten box office poll, where he would remain for more than 20 years. He continued to work at an extraordinary pace, often completing five to seven films in a single year.
Honored with numerous awards and accolades, Wayne placed his footprints at Sid Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood on January 25, 1950. The cement was mixed with sand from the beach of Iwo Jima, Japan.
Declared a historic and cultural landmark in 1968, visitors continue to visit the site of Wayne’s footprints, located between longtime co-star Victor McLaglen, and John Travolta. The picture shown is John Wayne putting his fist print into the sand at Grauman’s.
